Dr Marcin Sowa presents at nephrology conference

13 Sep 2018

On 11 September, Dr Marcin Sowa gave a talk at the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting. His presentation summarised a recent study exploring characteristics of high cost and frequent users of hospital care in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) population.

CKD, which affects one in 10 Australian adults, is considered one of the silent diseases due to its lack of signs or symptoms apparent until very advanced stages. CKD has been associated with a considerable disease burden and a large footprint on healthcare resources, especially in the presence of chronic comorbidities such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions.

The identification and better management of intensive users of hospital care are key strategies for improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs associated with CKD.
