Effective and efficient healthcare

Under this research focus area, the Centre for the Business and Economics of Health (CBEH) applies studies and evaluates health technologies, procedures, and interventions for treatment and preventive health. Our strengths include integrating economic analyses into clinical trials and decision analytic modelling. We undertake economic and statistical analysis of observational, experimental, and retrospective datasets, and we are motivated to find effective ways to address the broader social and cultural determinants of health through innovation. CBEH researchers provide high-quality evidence to the Australian Government and international agencies to inform decision-making about the development and roll-out of new medicines and technologies.

CBEH researchers are informing decisions by the Australian Government’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) on new medicine listings. In collaboration with UQ’s Centre for Health Services Research, our team is providing government with the scientific evidence and appraisal they need to determine the comparative value of new medicines.
